FDA Clears NIPRO’s ELISIO-HX Dialyzer

The clearance introduces HDs (Hemodialysis powered by super high-flux membrane) in the U.S.

NIPRO Corp. has obtained U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its ELISIO-HX dialyzer.

The clearance introduces HDs (Hemodialysis powered by super high-flux membrane) in the U.S. HDs in an approach in expanded hemodialysis (Expanded HD) that offers a practical way to enhance hemodialysis while using existing dialysis infrastructure and established workflows.

Hemodialysis remains the primary treatment for end-stage kidney disease in the U.S., but improved removal of larger middle-molecule uremic toxins linked to chronic complications is still needed. ELISIO-HX is designed to address this need with broad patient eligibility and seamless integration into routine dialysis care.

At the core of HDs is the ELISIO-HX dialyzer, which uses NIPRO’s super high-flux membrane technology to remove larger middle molecules while maintaining albumin retention to help preserve nutritional status. At the core of HDs is the ELISIO-HX dialyzer, which uses NIPRO’s super high-flux membrane technology to remove larger middle molecules while maintaining albumin retention to help preserve nutritional status.

A precision-engineered membrane enhances dialysis treatment while remaining compatible with existing hemodialysis systems and workflows, allowing providers to adopt HDs without new equipment or major workflow changes.

Comments from NIPRO execs

Tsuyoshi Yamazaki, president and CEO: “Innovation creates its greatest value when it becomes accessible in everyday clinical practice. Our ambition is to broaden the number of patients who can benefit from enhanced hemodialysis. With HDs, enabled by ELISIO-HX and our proprietary super high-flux membrane technology, healthcare professionals can enhance hemodialysis using the infrastructure and expertise they already have. FDA clearance represents an important milestone in bringing this approach to patients across the United States.”

Goichi Miyazumi, president of Medical Business Global Division: “Our experience across multiple regions has shown that HDs can be successfully integrated into routine dialysis care. Introducing ELISIO-HX in the United States represents another important step in making advanced dialysis technologies available to more patients while supporting healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality care.”
